Central European Disc Golf Championship
WELCOME
Welcome to the official website of the Central European Disc Golf Championship (CEDGC). Each year the best disc golf players from the region that includes 7 countries: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia, compete in a final tournament to win the prestigeous title in three divisions: MPO (Open), FPO (Women Open), and MJ1 (Open Junior). The players need to qualify either by their PDGA ratings or by a nomination by their national disc golf organization. In its inaugural year of CEDGC the championahip will be hosted in the legendary course in Smolenice in Slovakia on September 23-25, 2016.
SMOLENICE 2016
Since 2008 Smolenice castle park hosts the annual tournament Smolenice Open. The park offers a fantastic space for disc golf - rolling hills with large meadows, huge trees, dense woods with narrow paths, a small pond and, of course, the castle tower! It is traditionally one of the most difficult and also the most competetive tournaments in the region. In 2016 the course will host the best players in Central Europe at the first year of CEDGC. The best 48 men, 16 women, and 8 juniors will play in three rounds of 18 hole over the tournament weekend. The best 4 in each division will qualify for the 6 extended holes final round.
DG IN CENTRAL EUROPE
Disc golf in Central Europe has a long history. The first tournament in Austria was organized in 1981. Player traditionally play at big tournaments accross the region regardless of the country. In 2009 for one year Central European Tour was organized in which the best players from the region played 4 tournaments a year. In the recent years players from multiple CE countries participate regularly each year in the international Austro-Hungarian tour. In 2015 the region hosted almost 50 PDGA tournaments, including two EuroTour events, the number of permanent disc golf courses grew to almost 100 with a new course build almost every other week. Currently there are approximately 250 PDGA members and more than 1000 active disc golf players. The region is particularly strong in women division with 2 players in the European Top 10 and 15 players in Top 100, including one of the best junior players.
